Baby Alpaca Wool - Rimanki Premium Handicrafts
Baby Alpaca, an exceptionally fine, incredible soft, lightweight, durable, hypoallergenic fiber which comes from the back of the adult alpaca, the only part that does not get contaminated by dirt.
Baby Alpaca is up to seven times warmer than the common sheep’s wool because the single fiber works as a thermal insulation. This wool is cozy but also breathable for warmer weather thanks to the air pockets that are only found in alpaca fibers.
Baby alpaca are gently shorn by hand and only during warmer season. Alpacas are much cooler and happier in warm weather once the fibers are removed. They regrow by the time cool weather returns.
Alpacas are kept in herds that graze on the level heights of the Andes of Southern Peru, Western Bolivia, Ecuador, and Northern Chile.
Their habitat is at an altitude of 3,500m (11,500 ft) to 5,000 m (16,000 ft) above sea level. With one alpaca you can make up to five sweaters, while it takes four goats to produce sufficient cashmere for a single sweater.
